Easy Ways to Spot Roofing Trouble

Posted on: 2 May 2017

As the property owner, it is up to you to make sure that you are quickly spotting trouble with your roof so it can be resolved as soon as possible. By doing this, you will be able to refrain from having to deal with too many structural damages or your insurance company canceling your policy due to the roof being neglected. To help you avoid such troubles, you will want to take notice of the following scenarios.

You Cleaned Shingle Debris Out of the Gutters

The gutters are there to catch rain water, but it will also catch the little granules that fall off of your asphalt shingles once they start getting a little too old to be on your roof anymore. Therefore, even though from a distance your roofing shingles look like they are in decent shape, they aren't if you are noticing small pieces of your shingles in the gutters.

Roofing Materials Are Landing on the Ground

If you are noticing the occasional roofing nail, shingle, or even a small piece of roofing paper on the ground around the exterior of your home, you will need to take immediate action. Your roof needs to be inspected by a professional and the proper repairs need to be made as soon as possible. If this is not done, the situation will only get worse, and it is only a matter of time before you see leaks in the ceiling of your home. Should the roofer find that the roofing paper is still in good shape, you may be able to simply replace the shingles, which will save you some money.

There Is a Change in Your Ceilings

Take the time to examine the ceilings of the top floor of your house. Do any of them appear to be swelling or bubbling, have tiles that are becoming distorted, or displaying any water marks? If so, then you most likely have a problem with your roof that will need to be examined by a professional. He or she will be able to determine where the problem is occurring, as it is not always directly over the damaged ceiling. This is because of the way water can travel over and through building materials.

Just make sure that you are not wasting time once you have noticed that you have a problem with your roof. The sooner the issue is resolved, the sooner your home will be truly protected.
